PAF Placement Update: Kelsey Johnston Researches the Rich History of GW Commencement Speakers

November 14, 2014

Within my placement in the Office of Media Relations, I am exposed to GW from a media perspective. In addition to the day-to-day support I provide – such as media advisories, press releases, and attending events – I am also connected to many projects that span across different on-campus offices.  Most recently I have been involved with a project with GW Events and Venues. Since my preceptor is aware of my deep interest in all things related to history, he connected me with the office to research commencement speakers and honorary degree recipients that date back to the university’s first commencement ceremony in 1826.  The project has allowed me to spend time in GW’s archive in Gelman Library as I pour over documents from the 19th and 20th centuries.  I hope to contribute to the rich history of GW and preserve the information I collect for generations of Colonials to come.
