Congratulations to Bianca Valencia, the 2014 Lindsey Ferris Memorial Scholarship Winner. Bianca is a member of the GW Women's Swimming team, and the first non-gymnastics athlete to win the award following the full-scholarship funding of the GW Women's Gymnastics team.
On winning, Bianca said:
"My name is Bianca Valencia and I am majoring in Criminal Justice from the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. Being the recipient of the Lindsey M. Ferris Memorial PAF Scholarship Fund will not only help me further my education, but enable me to become a productive member of society.
Lindsey is remembered for her hard work and dedication to the sport of gymnastics, academics, and service. As a member of the Women’s Varsity Swim Team, this scholarship gives me the chance to seize opportunities that will help me become a prominent leader in both the swimming pool and classroom. It also allows me to continue to invest time volunteering so that my community can grow and flourish as well.
Ultimately, with this award, I am able to strive beyond conventional expectations and create higher standards for others to match. I intend to use Lindsay as my inspirational model to persevere through the obstacles that stand in my way of success."
