Last Saturday I had the opportunity as part of my placement to work on the Pop-Up Produce Market, an effort of the Urban Food Task Force, under Diane Knapp’s leadership. The market took place at Deanwood Recreation Center in Ward 7, a recognized food desert area. While volunteers assembled bags of fresh fruits and vegetables for each participant, families watched University Chef Robert’s demonstration of how to prepare the foods healthfully. I had a great time volunteering with colleagues and fellow PAFs, and ultimately, we fed 118 families!
