FDoS2016
Over GW 2,500 students, faculty, and staff - including the PAFs - participated in GW’s eighth annual Freshman Day of Service and Convocation (FDoS) on Saturday, September 10th and logged 6,680 hours of community service. The service day, organized by the Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, is part of GW’s annual remembrance of Sept. 11, initially kicked off by First Lady, Michelle Obama’s challenge eight years ago when the University set a goal to complete 100,000 hours of service.

During this year’s convocation, President Steven Knapp announced GW’s selection as a leading university partner with 9/11 Day’s Tomorrow Together service initiative to reinforce empathy, service, and unity through large-scale service projects on September 11, 2016. Dr. Knapp also highlighted exemplary student leadership and service within the GW community, and included current PAF, Marcus Andrews, also a participant during FDoS this year (watch the clip of President Knapp’s remarks about Marcus).

Current PAFs Marisa Cordon, Zinhle Essamuah, Grace Mausser, Angela Sako, Maxwell Tingle, and Alex Wang along with PAF alumna Ashlynn Profit and PAF Administrative Advisor Peter Konwerski, joined Marcus in assisting with the event’s logistics. I also joined fellow PAF Alec Nadeau and other freshmen group leaders to battle record-high temperatures at two of the 44 service sites in the D.C., Virginia, and Maryland areas.

I am so proud to join in the program’s legacy of service to both the GW community and DMV community at large.
