PAFs Discuss Undergraduate Teaching Quality with Academic Leadership

December 30, 2016

Bracey & Henry
PAFs met with Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs Christopher Bracey and Dean of Libraries and Academic Innovation Geneva Henry during the weekly meeting on Tuesday, November 22nd to discuss strengths, challenges, and opportunities in the realm of undergraduate teaching at GW.

The meeting allowed PAFs the chance to hear from senior academic leaders and learn about current initiatives to enhance the academic experience for GW students. One program that the vice provosts highlighted was the University Teaching and Learning Center, which is a voluntary, faculty-driven effort to increase the availability of resources and support for professors when designing courses. Other topics of discussion included course evaluation optimization, different teaching techniques, and ways students can make the most of their classroom experiences.

Vice Provost Bracey and Dean Henry welcomed feedback from the PAF cohorts, and the meeting served as a strong starting point for a larger conversation about academic innovation at GW. The meeting allowed PAFs to share with Vice Provost Bracey and Dean Henry their ideas of a PAF initiative to research best practices for promoting effective teaching in higher education and make recommendations to the university leadership. Special thanks to first-year PAF Dor Hirsh Bar Gai for his leadership in coordinating the PAF initiative thus far and facilitating this meeting.

Thank you again to Vice Provost Bracey and Dean Henry.
