Current fellows Nina Balandina, Jack Hatcher, Markella Lanara, and Grace Allread successfully hosted the second social event for graduate students, made possible through funding from the Luther Rice Society Advisory Committee. The event, a Spooky Monument Walk, is part of the fellows’ GW Graduate Experience & Research Network Initiative, the proposal that earned them $11,500 earlier this year.
The event offered graduate students an “Only at GW” experience, bringing them together for a scenic walk from campus to the National Mall. Participants began in Kogan Plaza, then continued on to the Einstein Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Reflecting Pool, the Lincoln Memorial, and concluded at the Korean War Memorial. Along the way, master’s and doctoral students had the chance to connect, share stories, and form new friendships.
In true Halloween spirit, many attendees came dressed in costumes, and free candy was provided throughout the walk. Check out the photos below for a sneak peek at everyone’s creative looks!
This successful event highlights the fellows’ ongoing commitment to fostering connection, community, and belonging within the GW graduate student body. Stay tuned for future updates as they continue to organize new and engaging events under this exciting initiative.
