Helen Christy at her placement

This year, I’ve had the pleasure to split my placement between GW’s Program on Extremism and Center for Cyber and Homeland Security. This unique opportunity allows me to explore my interests in counter-terrorism and national security writ large.

At the Program on Extremism, I primarily support research projects on Islamic State sympathizer use of digital communications technologies. At the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security, I coordinate public and private events with national security stakeholders including recent events like Congressman McCaul's “State of National Security” Address, TSA Administrator Pekoske’s “State of TSA” Address, and the launch event for a new Track 1.5 diplomacy initiative between the Ukraine and U.S. on cybersecurity.

Between all the cutting-edge research and pertinent programs directed by my placements, it is never a dull day in the office!
