The Presidential Fellows once again participated in the seventh annual GW Veteran Day of Service, a joint-enterprise of the Office of Military and Veterans Student Services, the GW Honey W. Nashman Center, and GW Veterans. We were pleased to have the current fellows joined by program director, Robert Snyder, and incoming first-years Inigo Acosta and Camila Tapias!
The Fellowship served at A Wider Circle (AWC), located in Silver Spring, MD. After the opening ceremony, the fellows joined other members of the GW community in moving and assembling furniture, sorting clothes, and assisting AWC’s clients with transporting their items. To conclude the service, AWC staff members joined GW site service leaders in holding a reflection on the day’s activities.
Throughout the Spring semester, I had the pleasure of serving as an advisor to the planning committee to assist with the hand-off from my role as the previous Veteran Day of Service coordinator. Although a Saturday skills course kept me from attending the event, I am proud to know that the Veteran Day of Service remains a strong tradition and I am grateful to the Presidential Fellowship for its continued support. Over the next few weeks, I will be working with members of the planning committee to conduct an extensive debriefing of the event and make recommendations for improving next year’s event.
